Meditation and Reflection

This activity is designed to create a painting produced from your inner reflections and emotions. Spend a few minutes listening to the meditation below and afterward, begin painting your experience.

Step 1.

Grab your materials. For this activity, you will need a canvas or any surface you plan to paint on, paint, or another type of material of your choice (watercolor, colored pencil, etc.), along with paintbrushes, some paper towels, and a cup of water.

Step 2

Get comfortable. Find a quiet space where you will not be disturbed or interrupted. You can listen to the meditation lying down or sitting up; whatever you feel like.

Step 3

Start painting! Create an image based on the meditation you listened to below. There is no right or wrong way to do this; it is an intuitive exercise in which you have the time and space to process your emotions and create a beautiful piece of art in which they are captured.

Tips

Emotions are often associated with colors. Feel free to emphasize color schemes through your palette. Additionally, textures and patterns also convey moods and general tones in art. Consider using your fingers, straws, feathers, or other materials to create unlikely prints on your piece.

Watch this quick video to see my process with this Art at Home Activity. Mistakes are welcome and again, there is no right way to paint what you are feeling. Enjoy this experience giving the space for your emotions to arise and the time you gifted yourself to reflect on them.
